Today, we’re diving into core values—what they are, what they’re not, why they’re important, and why you need to know your individual values. Knowing your values can help you level up in life, foster impactful relationships, and understand your motivations and behaviors. So, let’s get after it!

What Are Core Values?

Core values are the fundamental beliefs that guide our actions, decisions, and behaviors. Think of them as your internal compass. Everyone’s personal values are different; what’s important to me might not be important to you, and vice versa. Typically, we have about five core values that significantly influence our lives.

Why Identifying Your Values Matters

Identifying your personal values is like discovering your operating system. It helps you understand why you do what you do and how you can become more successful. If you keep encountering setbacks, it might be because you’re dishonoring your personal values. Understanding and honoring these values can help you stay grounded, improve your relationships, and increase your overall happiness.

Living Through Your Values

When you live authentically through your values, you experience more joy, fulfillment, and stability. You become less emotional and more level-headed because you understand what drives you. For example, five years ago, I was wildly sporadic and often emotional. But once I discovered my personal values, I started to live in alignment with them and saw significant improvements in my life and relationships.

Creating Alignment in Your Relationships

Understanding your values helps you create win-win relationships. Whether in business or personal life, aligning with others who share or respect your values leads to more harmonious and fulfilling connections. If you and your partner or colleague aren’t aligned, it can lead to conflict and dissatisfaction. Knowing your core values allows you to make better decisions about who to align with.
